Brian Greene Lecture at UVIC

Well, why not try to alternate meniscus with the minuscule, or even the infinitely small. Went to a lecture by Brian Greene at UVIC last night and it was exhilarating! Sold out tickets, even though they were free, when I first tried to obtain them a week or so ago at UVIC, but a venue change allowed for FAR more people to attend, and I grabbed two tickets.

His passion for science is entertaining and informative, and he has a routine any stand-up comic would die for, especially his rapport with the audience. I highly recommend going to ANYTHING he would lecture about! His graphics depicting a multi-verse as a 2-dimensional chess board with purple, gaseous, morphing, cloud-like images was beautiful!

I thrill at finding quotes that send tingles up and down my spine! Or amuse me in other ways! One of my favourites of his is:

I have long thought that anyone who does not regularly - or ever - gaze up and see the wonder and glory of a dark night sky filled with countless stars loses a sense of their fundamental connectedness to the universe.
Brian Greene

Most people will have first encountered him first in PBS NOVA The Elegant Universe. You want to watch something about Quantum Physics, String Theory and what kind of Multi-verse we might be in, then watch it! And it could just be, we are all made of strings! Maybe that is why some people really do come .. unravelled!

And why not end on another quote, this simply amusing me and involving General Relativity!

No matter how hard you try to teach your cat general relativity, you're going to fail.
Brian Greene
