Quantum Brussels Sprouts au Gratin

Quantum Brussels Sprouts au Gratin

Challenge...ACCEPTED!

Tomoyo, from:

Can of Good Goodies (Japanese version)
Can of Good Goodies (Google Translate version)

challenged me to make the following dish! Brussels Sprouts have been a running joke and so...here goes.......

Stuff you need: Brussels Sprouts, Salt, Pancetta, garlic butter, shallots (or green onions), flour, milk, nutmeg, thyme, Gruyer cheese.
The Stuff ... you will need!
Dice the meat. Chop the shallots, or in this case, green onions. Couldn't find any! Chop ends of sprouts, clean a few leaves and excellent the cheese. Some grate it, I excellent it! Go big onion or go home .. to Brussels!
The Stuff you need ... prepped!
Blanch the Brussels Sprouts. Put aside. Fry the meat, get some fat oozing out.
Keep fat, put meat aside when crisp.
The Stuff ... being made!
To make a long story short, all the rest of the stuff goes in the same pot at intervals to make a roux and it all comes out super gooey, cheesy and smells .....wunderbar!
The Stuff that smells .. WUNDERBAR!
Put it all into one, or in this case, as I guessed a little too much...two pans! LEFTOVERS ... will be interesting....
The Stuff ... Pre-Oven!
Bake for about 25 minutes until it is bubbly, brown and ... irresistible
The Stuff ... Post-Oven!
Serve with grated parmesan, arugula salad, croutons and low-fat caesar salad dressing and...this was mostly fast and mostly easy! The fussy part was the sprouts. They gotta be prepped, but well worth the extra... 7.2 minutes!!!!
The Stuff ... YOU NOW EAT!!!
Cooking is not Rocket Science.......
...... it is CHEMISTRY!

And the real on-line recipe that Tomoyo found, if you want all those little details is at Simply Recipes.

Thanks Tomoyo and everyone go visit her site - both Japanese and English!

  2. Should be interesting tonight when I warm it up! Should be okay, and will add some more cheese and extra stuff! The fiddly part was the BS at the beginning, just getting the ends cut off, but was super easy, actually!
